Reduce mental stress
through breathing training Hamburg
Why do I need breathing training?
In today’s world, where we are often confronted with a hectic lifestyle, stress and the challenges of modern everyday life, breathing meditation is becoming increasingly important. Many of today’s illnesses are linked to a lack of exercise, poor diet and the effects of stress. Having meditated regularly myself for many years, I know the benefits of regular breathing training and wouldn’t want to do without it. Many years ago, I realized that I couldn’t get my stress levels under control in the long term just by exercising. Rather, I kept getting into overtraining because I was trying to compensate for mental stress with physical training. However, the endorphins and feelings of happiness after a strenuous workout are only ever short-lived and do not help combat everyday stress in the long term. The risk of falling into a dangerous cycle, from which it is difficult and often impossible to escape unscathed, increases significantly over time. If you increase your training excessively over a longer period of time without allowing for sufficient recovery and regeneration, you can expect a number of risks and negative effects on your physical and mental health. And this is despite the fact that sports training is supposed to keep us healthy.
So I needed something that would help me to promote the harmonious interplay between my physical and mental well-being. And that’s how I found breathing training or breathing meditation, which, contrary to some doubters, has nothing at all to do with esotericism. Regular exercise and breathing meditation have helped and continue to help me to reduce stress, strengthen my cardiovascular system, promote emotional stability, attention and concentration, go through life more mindfully, increase my performance, improve my sleep and, last but not least, significantly improve my quality of life. And these are not new findings at all!
This is just another new trend!
Absolutely not! Breathing meditation, also known as pranayama, is a central practice in yoga and in various spiritual traditions. The practice of breathing meditation has its roots in the ancient Indian texts, in particular the Upanishads and the Vedas, which were written more than 5000 years ago. In these texts, the breath is regarded as a vital source of energy and is associated with prana, the life energy. It is taught that conscious control of the breath (pranayama) can calm the mind and promote spiritual development.
Due to the many positive effects and the ease of implementation, I have decided to train as a state-approved breathing coach in 2023 in order to share the positive effects of breathing meditation with my clients and participants in individual sessions.
In the following articles, I would like to start with a definition of breathing training and dispel any preconceptions.

What exactly is breathing training?
Breath training, also known as mindful breathing, breathing meditation or breath awareness, is a form of meditation that focuses on the breath as the object of attention. It is a simple and effective mindfulness practice that involves paying conscious, non-judgmental attention to one’s breath with the aim of calming the mind, increasing self-awareness and promoting relaxation.
In a typical breathing practice, we sit comfortably in a quiet place and focus our attention on our breath as it flows in and out naturally. The breath is observed without trying to control or judge it, but rather with a sense of curiosity and acceptance. I guide my participants to register the feeling of the breath in the nostrils, the rising and falling of the chest or belly or the sound of the breath. When the mind wanders, which is natural, the individual gently brings their attention back to the breath without judgment.
Breath meditation has been practiced for centuries in various traditions such as Buddhism, yoga and mindfulness-based stress reduction. It has been found to have numerous benefits for mental, emotional and physical well-being. These can include reducing stress, improving focus and concentration, improving self-awareness, managing emotions, promoting relaxation and calm, and promoting a greater sense of overall well-being.
Breath meditation or breath training is a flexible practice that can be done anywhere, anytime and is accessible to people of different ages, abilities and lifestyles. It can be practiced for short periods of time, such as a few minutes on a busy day, or for longer sessions, depending on preferences and needs. It is important to note that while breathing meditation can be a valuable tool for many people, it may not be suitable for everyone. As with any practice, it is important to find out what works best for you and if you have any concerns or questions, it is best to contact me directly.
What are the benefits of breathing meditation?

Here are some potential benefits of breathing meditation:
- Stress reduction: Breathing meditation can help to reduce stress by calming the nervous system and putting the body in a relaxed state. By consciously observing the breath, stress-related thoughts and worries can be reduced, which leads to deeper relaxation.
- Improved concentration and clarity of mind: Breathing meditation promotes focus and concentration of the mind. By focusing on the breath as the object of attention and returning to the breath again and again, the mind is trained to be present and mindful in the present moment. This can lead to improved clarity of mind, increased concentration and mental clarity.
- Promoting mindfulness and self-awareness: Breathing meditation is a core part of mindfulness practice and can help to increase awareness of the present moment. By paying attention to your breath, you develop a deeper understanding of your own body, thoughts, feelings and sensations in the moment. This can lead to increased self-awareness and self-confidence.
- Emotion regulation: Breathing meditation can help to develop a conscious and accepting way of dealing with emotions. By observing the breath and practicing acceptance and non-judgment, one can learn to better regulate emotions and deal with them in a healthier way.
- Improved physical health: Breathing meditation can also have physical benefits. Deep, conscious breathing can improve oxygen supply, promote blood circulation and help relax the muscles and nervous system. This can contribute to an improvement in general physical health.
It is important to note that the experience and benefits of breathing meditation can vary from person to person. Some people find this practice helpful, while it may not be right for others. It is important to try out different forms of meditation and find the one that best suits your individual needs and preferences.
